Trusting God with the people you love may be one of the hardest forms of surrender. Sometimes the heaviest things we carry are not our own struggles… but the children, spouses, parents, friends, and people we care deeply about. We pray, worry, and replay conversations. And often, we quietly carry burdens that were never ours to hold alone.

In this week’s Rooted + Rested reflection, we’re talking about surrender, prayer, and learning how to place the people we love back into God’s hands.

Because loving deeply can sometimes start feeling heavy.

💜

Why Trusting God With the People You Love Feels Heavy

I think many women become very good at carrying.

We carry responsibilities.

We carry expectations.

And often…

we carry people.

Not because we want control.

Usually because we care.

However, somewhere along the way, care can slowly become burden.

And burden eventually becomes heavy.

Maybe you know what that feels like.

Lying awake thinking about someone.

Replaying conversations.

Wondering if they will be okay.

Praying…

and still feeling the weight.

If so, you are not alone.

A Lavender Reflection on Care, Control, and Surrender

Recently, this made me think about the lavender field.

After such a difficult winter, I’ve wanted to protect every struggling plant.

Watch closely.

Cover quickly before frost.

Save everything.

Because when you care about something…

you naturally want to help.

Yet God keeps teaching me something:

There comes a point where tending faithfully becomes different from carrying the outcome.

I can prune, cover the plants, and tend carefully.

However…

I cannot force growth.

And I cannot control every outcome.

That realization feels uncomfortable sometimes.

Still, maybe surrender often looks like faithful care…

without carrying everything.

Maybe that is true with people too.

💜

Why Trusting God With the People You Love Requires Surrender

One of the hardest parts of trusting God with the people you love is releasing outcomes.

We want healing, peace, answers and certainty.

And sometimes we want those things immediately because watching someone struggle hurts.

However, surrender does not mean we stop loving.

Surrender simply means we stop trying to carry what belongs in God’s hands.

💜

Scriptures for Trusting God With the People You Love

One of the verses I keep returning to is from First Epistle of Peter 5:7:

“Casting all your cares on him, because he cares about you.”

I love that invitation.

Because God never tells us to pretend we are not worried.

Instead, He invites us to bring those worries to Him.

Again.

And again.

Especially when those worries involve people we deeply love.

💜

Another passage that feels important comes from Epistle to the Philippians 4:6:

“Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

Prayer does not always remove uncertainty.

However, prayer reminds us we are not carrying things alone.

That changes something.

💜

Learning to Trust God With the People You Love Through Prayer

Learning to trust God with the people you love often means releasing burdens repeatedly.

Not once.

Again and again.

Sometimes daily.

Because worry returns.

Fear returns.

Questions return.

Yet each time, God gently invites us back:

Pray.

Release.

Trust.

Repeat.

A Gentle Reminder for This Week

Friend…

loving someone deeply can sometimes make surrender feel difficult.

However, trusting God with the people you love does not mean you stop caring.

It does not mean you stop praying.

And it certainly does not mean you stop loving.

Instead, it means you continue loving while releasing outcomes you cannot control.

You can pray faithfully…

without carrying everything.
