The Promise That’s Held Our Marriage for 37 Years

“If you had known everything God was going to ask you to walk through… would you still have said yes?”

This week marks thirty-seven years since Bob and I got engaged.

Looking back, I can’t help but smile at how little we knew about the story God was writing. We certainly didn’t know the joys we would experience or the challenges we’d face together. We had no idea how often we would need to lean on Christ—or how faithful He would prove Himself to be through every season. The Lord has been the promise that’s held our marriage together for 37 years.

In this week’s episode of Rooted & Rested, I’m sharing our unusual engagement story, reflecting on thirty-seven years of marriage, and talking about the one foundation that has held us together through depression, illness, parenting, loss, career changes, church hurt, new beginnings, and unexpected blessings.

This isn’t a story about a perfect marriage.

It’s a testimony to a perfect Savior.
