Trusting God’s Timing
Have you ever felt like you’re rushing through life, afraid you’ll miss the “right” moment?
For years, lavender harvest brought more pressure than peace. Lavender growers are taught to harvest when about one-third of the blooms have opened. Here in Ohio, that also means keeping one eye on the flowers and the other on the weather forecast. I always felt like I was racing the clock—and the rain—trying not to miss the perfect harvest window.
But this year, everything changed.
After a fall earlier this spring, God began teaching me to slow down. What started as something I had no choice but to do eventually became something I chose to embrace. As I slowed my pace, I noticed something I had overlooked for years.
Every stage of the lavender had a purpose.
The early buds were perfect for tea.
The blooming stems became beautiful bouquets.
The mature flowers became essential oil.
The fully opened blossoms fed the bees and butterflies.
And the faded gray flower heads…
held seeds for the future.
As I carefully gathered those tiny lavender seeds, God reminded me of the truth found in Ecclesiastes 3:1:
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”
If I had harvested every stem at what I thought was the “perfect” stage, the seeds never would have had time to mature.
How often do we do the same thing in our own lives?
We rush through waiting, healing, grief, parenting, ordinary day….
We keep looking ahead, believing the next season will be better than the one we’re living.
But what if God is still growing something beautiful in the season you’re in today?
