The Verse That Made Me Cry: Remembered by God in a Season of Pruning (Isaiah 49)

Can recognizing that we are remembered by God make rest possible again?

This spring brought unexpected loss in the lavender field, injury, slowing down, and questions I didn’t anticipate. After removing around 75 lavender plants and watching rows sit empty, I found myself asking:

What will my lesson in the lavender be this year?

Every season in the field seems to teach me something. However, I never expected the answer to come through pruning.

Or uncertainty.

Or Isaiah 49.

Instead, as I’ve reflected on this season, I’ve started wondering whether this year’s lesson is simply:

You are remembered.

In this episode of Rooted + Rested, I share a personal story about a difficult season, an honest prayer, and the Scripture that unexpectedly brought me to tears:

“I will not forget you…
I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands.”
— Isaiah 49:16 (CSB)

As I read those verses again, something shifted.

I realized:

Recognizing that I am remembered by God has given me the possibility of rest—something I honestly had not been feeling was possible.

Because for a long time, I believed rest would come once circumstances improved.

When answers came, healing came and uncertainty ended.

Instead, I’m beginning to wonder whether rest starts somewhere entirely different.

Maybe it begins here:

God has not forgotten me.

In This Episode We Discuss:

First, reflections on hard seasons and pruning in the lavender field

Then, why renewal often begins with loss, slowing down, and depending on God

Honest questions about purpose, serving others, and carrying too much

Isaiah 49:14–16 and the reminder that God does not forget His people

Why recognizing we are remembered may make rest possible again

The question I carried all winter:

What will my lesson in the lavender be this year?

💜 Finally, how remembering God’s faithfulness may come before renewal

Key Reflection From This Episode:

Recognizing that I am remembered by God… not forgotten… has given me the possibility of rest.

That realization changed something in me.

Because I thought renewal would bring rest.

Instead, I’m beginning to wonder whether remembering that God has not forgotten me… is what makes rest possible.

And perhaps:

Being remembered comes before renewal.
